Daniel Stone

Principal

Daniel is a senior advisor to C-Suite executives, government officials, and Cabinet ministers, specialising in technology, communications, and innovation. With a decade of experience in business, policy, and issue management, he has led 190 public policy campaigns, building support for 188 clients, engaging over 20 million people, and raising over $10M AUD in small-dollar donations. He excels at addressing complex social challenges and delivering effective political solutions through a consensus-driven approach grounded in strong social values.

His current research at the Centre for the Future of Intelligence at Cambridge University reveals how values-based messaging subconsciously shapes public preferences for policies and how AI companies and policy advocates use these techniques to influence global AI governance. It provides clear recommendations to help those seeking to promote ethical, accountable, transparent and open technology policy solutions.

As co-founder of Principle Co, Daniel developed cutting-edge research, data analytics, and messaging techniques that successfully influenced public opinion in many contested policy debates, including five Australian federal elections with Australian Labor and the ‘Yes’ campaign for Marriage Equality. These skills also resolved challenges in other areas of strategic concern, such as securing social licenses for renewable energy projects, accountability within the National Disability Insurance Scheme and reform within the superannuation finance industry.

He is a sought-after commentator and advisor on disinformation, election integrity, micro-targeting, and harmful algorithmic profiling.

Daniel is also a Policy Fellow with the Centre for Responsible Technology and the Chifley Research Centre, focusing on technology governance. He mentors the next generation of innovators as a sessional tutor at the UTS School of Transdisciplinary Innovation and as a mentor at the Sydney School of Entrepreneurship.
